Even today age, women are still fighting to be man's equals. So going back to 1984 it was hard to consider a female superhero film, but they tried. Supergirl was suppose to bring Kara-Zor El to the big screen with her Cousin Superman. While Christopher's Reeve Superman was a success and gave film and tv makers the blueprint to what many feel what superman should be. Supergirl on the other hand failed to make a dent. A lot of people saw it as a cheap attempt to cash in on Superman's success. But the film is more then that. with Movies at that time dominated by men and over hype muscles and egos. Supergirl showed the world that a female can be just as strong and make just as an impact without getting naked. Sure it failed in a lot of places but it didnt fail on the point that you shouldnt be afraid to try something new. many filmmakers try to conform to cash in play it safe. but supergirl is an example of trying something different. that's why it should get the Blu-ray treatment.
